Bonding in Business
Posted by Moss under: Business .
The notion of bonding comes out of the research on human attachment.
Bonding refers to a need humans have to be close to another person and to be in a relationship characterized by emotional openness and expression. What better a place for bonding than in a partnership! Bonding is essential for trust and a long-term successful relationship.
A failure to bond results in frustration, anger, and fear. It is a far distance to distrust and estrangement. Some barriers to partnership bonding are:
- An inability to accept caring behavior.
- An inability to express caring behavior.
- An inability to express anger.
- An inability to accept anger.
In a bonded partnership, partners:
- Acknowledge and accept real feelings and use this to deal with their present issues.
- Own and manage “old tapes” and keep a focus on the present situation.
- Appreciate that you and your partner may be in different places with regard to an issue.
Partners who practice good bonding skills are more accepting, share more fully, have greater trust, and act less defensively with each other.
Bottom Line
- Bonding is essential for trust to develop.
- Bonding skills can be learned.
- Partnership success requires partners to experience a sense of bonding.
