Exceed Expectations
Posted by Moss under: Navigating Partnerships .
You may already be keeping you agreements and holding yourself accountable. You may also be communicating to your partner and others when you don’t keep your promise. Good for You! Maybe you’re ready to go one step further: “Exceeding your partner’s expectations.”
Here is an idea to consider: Read over your package of core values, shared vision, or ground rules for a successful partnership. Each week pick one and practice it everyday for the week. Choose another to practice for the following week and so on.
For example, if acknowledging others is something you choose as a high performance action, perhaps you can exceed expectations by taking opportunities to acknowledge not just your partner’s efforts but also other members of your team, i.e. secretaries, administrative assistants, managing, the cleaning crew, etc.
Catch your team doing good, not just for exceptional achievements but also for those little daily actions that contribute to your company’s success. Or if a customer is satisfied with the service your company provides, go seek out the person who solved someone’s problem and acknowledge that employee publicly.
Bottom Line
- Exceeding expectations is generous.
- It is what successful people do.
- It creates reciprocity from others.
- It’s a great cure for self-centeredness.
